Quang Binh is a province along north-central coast of Vietnam. The province is bordered by Laos to the West, the West Sea to the East, Ha Tinh province to the North and Quang Tri to the South. Historically, this region belonged to Van Lang and later the kingdom of Champa. 

During the Vietnam War, this province was part of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam), only 20 km from the DMZ. This province was severely devastated by bombing from U.S. B52s. This province is home to the World Heritage Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. The province is also home to several famous Vietnamese persons, including General Vo Nguyen Giap, poet Han Mac Tu, and the family of former South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem.

The terrain of Quang Binh narrow and sloping from west to east, 85% of total natural area is mountainous. The whole area is divided into basic ecological zones: high mountainous area, hilly and midland, lowland, coastal sandy areas.

In the east of the province are lower hills and then several narrow plains and river deltas. The seaside sand dunes belt is a natural dam that protects the land from the ocean tides. Quang Binh is located in the tropical monsoon, is divided into two distinct seasons: 
•    Rainy season from September to March of the next year. 
•    Dry season is from April to August with average temperature 24°C – 25°C. 
Three months has the highest temperature are June, July and August.

Dong Hoi is the capital city of Quang Binh Province. There is not much to do there but there are nearby beaches and caves. Nhat Le beach is nearby but the focus of the town is on the river and canals.
