This pagoda, whose name means ‘Great Marble Buddha Image’, was built by King Mindon in 1853. Kyauktawgyi Pagoda gets the fame due to a large seated Buddha image made from a single block of pale green marble. It is said 10,000 men spent 13 days transporting the image from the Irrawaddy River to its current site.
