Sagaing
Sagaing was the capital of Sarang Region, one of the minor kingdoms in Myanmar. Located on the Ayeyarwady River, Sagaing with numerous Buddhist monasteries is an important religious and monastic center.
The pagodas and monasteries crowd the numerous hills along the bridge running parallel to the river. Soon U Ponya Shin Pagoda, Kaung Hmudaw Pagoda (a copy of the Mahaceti Pagoda in Sri Lanka), and Ywahtaung village (home of the silversmiths' guild) are places worth visiting in Sagaing.
