Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and leader of the National League of Democracy, was put under house arrest here off and on for 15 years from 1989 to 2010. Thanks to international pressure, the Burmese ruling military junta agreed to release her in 2010. There are lots of visitors passing by her house in the hope of seeing the presence of Aung San Suu Kyi and feeling the spirit of this freedom fighter.
